چکیده

RESULTS: Microcalcifications were detected radiographically in 146 of 361 (40%) cores. If calcifications were present on specimen radiographs, histologic detection of these calcifications was made in 114 of 146 (78%) specimens, and diagnosis was made in 118 of 146 (81%). If calcifications were not present on specimen radiographs, histologic detection was obtamed in 27 of 215 (13%) specimens and specific diagnosis in 81 of 215 (38%).

Retrieval Rate and Accuracy of Ultrasound-Guided 14-G Semi-Automated Core Needle Biopsy of Breast Microcalcifications

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the retrieval rate and accuracy of ultrasound (US)-guided 14-G semi-automated core needle biopsy (CNB) for microcalcifications in the breast. MATERIALS AND METHODS US-guided 14-G semi-automated CNB procedures and specimen radiography were performed for 33 cases of suspicious microcalcifications apparent on sonography. The accuracy of 14-G semi-automated CNB and radiology...

Raman spectroscopy: a real-time tool for identifying microcalcifications during stereotactic breast core needle biopsies

Microcalcifications are an early mammographic sign of breast cancer and a target for stereotactic breast needle biopsy. We present here a Raman spectroscopic tool for detecting microcalcifications in breast tissue based on their chemical composition. We collected ex vivo Raman spectra from 159 tissue sites in fresh stereotactic breast needle biopsies from 33 patients, including 54 normal sites,...

Bisphosphonate-functionalized Gold Nanoparticles as a Targeted X-ray Contrast Agent for Breast Microcalcifications

by Lisa E. Cole Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancerrelated deaths among women. Early detection is considered the best option for reducing morbidity and mammography is the current gold standard for early detection of breast cancer. Microcalcifications are the most common abnormality observed on a mammogram and are early markers for breast cancer. Howeve...

Columnar cell lesions of the breast: radiological features and histological correlation.

OBJECTIVE This study aimed at investigating the characteristic imaging findings of the columnar cell lesions (CCLs) of the breast via mammography (MG), ultrasonography (US), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS The MG, US and MRI findings of 72 patients with histopathological diagnosis of CCLs were retrospectively evaluated. Histopathologically, the CCLs were divided in...

Assessment of Breast Specimens With or Without Calcifications in Diagnosing Malignant and Atypia for Mammographic Breast Microcalcifications Without Mass

Presence of microcalcifications within the specimens frequently signifies a successful attempt of stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) in obtaining a pathologic diagnosis of the breast microcalcifications. In this study, the authors aimed to assess and compare the accuracy and consistency of calcified or noncalcified specimens obtained from same sites of sampling on isolated microc...
